Vidal has always been ambitious and highly driven to pursue her passions. This is evident in her creation of Mild Brown at the tender age of 17! During the same year, she completed a Digital Journalism course through Media24’s WeCan24 initiative. She is currently studying Psychology, Organisational Psychology and Film and Television Studies at the University of Cape Town. Vidal is the core blogger at Mild Brown, however she is assisted from time to time with help from a few friends and creative peers who also add to the voice of the blog. Vidal aims to create a niche in the South African blogosphere and produce content that appeals to the youth. She writes every post with the intent of informing and entertaining the reader.
About Mild Brown: Mild Brown was created because I felt that there was not a space in South African media that represented people of colour, and more so Indian people, in a creative and unique way. Mild Brown is an entertainment blog that discusses topics relatable to young adults. Film, TV, music, fashion and photography are some of the main topics discussed on Mild Brown as well as experiences and tips from Vidal based on her university experience. Created in 2016, a huge inspiration for the formation of Mild Brown was Baked the Blog, now Baked Online, by Aisha Baker. I was inspired by her hard work and how she managed to create such an authentic and engaged audience. One day, after much doubt, I just decided to go ahead and create the framework for my blog using the website builder, Weebly. It was one of the best decisions I’ve made and my piece of advice for anyone thinking of starting their own social media-based brand, would be to just go for it and make the leap. You can probably offer a unique perspective on topics and that’s what the world needs.
